Growing Up

I have known Thekla since 1970, when she and he sister Mickey came to live with my family.  I was only 4 years old at the time, and Thek had just turned 16.  Even being that young, I still remember to this day, her walking through the door, wearing a blue and white striped shirt, jeans, and carrying her possesions in a paper bag.  She never brushed me or my little sister off, and actually helped my mother in taking care of us.  I have so many great memories of Thek, that it would take me until Christmas to write them all down, but one does stick in my mind.  Thek, one day, asked my parents if she could have a dog.  They said she could, and we all piled into the car, and drove to Charlemont to get her a black lab.  Upon getting home, she began to think of names for the little guy, and decided on the name "Boo".  At the time, the song "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo" was popular, and Thek liked that song, so it was only fitting that she named the dog after the song.  To this day, every time I hear that song, I think of Thek and that little dog.  I have even burned that song into a cd, so that I will always have it to remember how happy she was with that dog.  Rest in peace Thek.  You will always be in our hearts and minds.  You became part of our family the day you walked into our lives, and that will never change.  You will always be my "big sis".
