My brief association with Whit was from my 5th through 8th grade years at The Grammar School. I always appreciated his gentle and encouraging spirit. As he was a light in my life at that age I always had him on my mental guest list for my wedding which did occur 10 years after I graduated from The Grammar School. I was truly honored that he made the trip to Saxtons River for that event. For many years I had no contact with Whit but he was frequently on my mind. I did see him a few years ago at the service for TGS librarian Dorritt Merton and it was so sweet to see him again. I am glad a few people from those days in Putney were able to make it to the service in tribute to Whit. He is a light that will forever shine in my life.

Mr. Whitcomb was a wonderful teacher! He had an infectious laugh and he could get up to minor shenanigans in the classroom. One time we stole his pen and Wells announced it on the PA, would whoever stole Mr. Whitcomb's pen please return it. Then seconds later he said would whoever stole Mr. Whitcomb please return him to his classroom? That caused a great laugh.

What a great teacher and friend. I'll never forget the first day of history when he though chaulk at me. Always had an entertaining story to tell.

Mr Whitcomb was one of my most favorite teachers at LRUHS. I will miss him. My thoughts are with his family.

Jen, we are so sorry for your loss. From all accounts your dad had a thirst for knowledge and a passion for passing it along to our youth. He led a large life and left a legacy of proud family. Bless you and your family in this time of grieving and reflecting.
